Nanis — Designer Spotlight

Laura Bicego grew up learning goldsmithing from her father in their family atelier in Trissino, in Italy's Veneto jewelry district. When she founded Nanis in 1990 with her husband Piero Marangon, she carried one conviction: jewelry should adapt to the woman who wears it, not the other way around. Every Nanis piece is made by hand in 18-karat gold using the burin — an engraving tool that carves deep grooves into the gold itself, creating a surface that is simultaneously matte and brilliant. The result is gold that feels warm, organic, and alive.

The Art of the Burin

In the Nanis atelier in Trissino — within Italy's legendary Vicenza gold district — master craftspeople use a burin to hand-engrave each piece of 18-karat gold. The tool carves fine grooves that scatter light in every direction, producing a surface unlike anything polished or cast: soft and brilliant at once. No two pieces are identical. This is the Nanis signature — the mark of human hands, made permanent in gold.

The Trasformista — Nanis's most iconic creation, introduced in 1995 — changes shape with a single touch, shifting from bracelet to necklace in a moment. The Reverse collection takes transformation further: flip a ring, pendant, or cuff to reveal an entirely different face in a different color and mood. A Vision Born in the Veneto

Laura Bicego is the daughter of a goldsmith. She spent her childhood in her father's workshop in Trissino, learning to see gold not as a fixed material but as something alive — capable of warmth, movement, and surprise. In 1990, she and her husband Piero Marangon founded Nanis, named after a little girl whose extraordinary presence had captivated them years before.
